Crazy About Collection Displays

It is easy to become overwhelmed with vintage & antique collections (believe us, we know), so it is  important to figure out the best way to organize and display those collections in a way that is easy and decor-friendly.
Here are some of our favorite ideas:

Vintage purses are always fabulous. Plus it doesn't cost too much to quickly acquire a collection of them. Hanging purses on a wall instead of artwork creates a nice break up of the wall space.

Teapots come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Having a beautiful piece of furniture to store them in is an easy way to protect and show off fragile items. We love how this olive green background makes the teapots pop.

It seems so simple, but with a collection of old trunks and suitcases, the most eye-catching display is when they are stacked on top of each other. This works particularly well if you have high ceilings. The room will look instantly bigger.

Depression glass is a wonderful collection due to its beautiful pastel hue. If you have a lot of pieces, design a room around them. Pull those same colors into other items in the space and you will achieve a cohesive look.

Old birdcages are so intricate. They work well massed together on top of large pieces of furniture, plus they add texture to a room. Don't forget, if you like the shape of a bird cage, but not the color, it can easily be painted to match any color scheme.

Re-Purposing Your Vintage Items

Many vintage items we find are meant for very specific purposes. Like a toast rack, for example. I don't know about you, but I most likely will not be organizing my toast in such a way. However, there are creative ways to re-purpose these items in a way that will allow you to use them all the time, as well as enjoy their appearance and history.

Enjoy our favorites this week:

This idea is great. Just apply chalk board paint to the surface of a silver tray and you have a cute door sign.

Cake pedestals are still great for actual cake, but you can also put them in the bathroom for guests to enjoy your favorite lotions and soaps.

When buying antique china, you tend to get some stray pieces. Use them for jewelry while adding visual appeal to your vanity.

Who says earrings go on your ears? Vintage clip earrings are instant shoe jewelry!

Using old silver vessels as organizational tools is a wonderful idea. I have never seen prettier cotton balls.

Wearing Vintage Jewelry

The holidays have come to an end, and chances are a lot of you received some fabulous new jewelry items. We happen to be collectors of vintage and antique jewelry and there are plenty of ways to wear these older items in a modern way. This week we want to share with you some of our ideas when it comes to wearing vintage and antique jewelry.

These rhinestone earrings are fabulous. They do have clip backs, so why not put them in your hair?! They would work great for any bride, or for a formal event.

Design-Bazaar Loves Downton Abbey

Our sister company, Churchill's Fine Teas, had the pleasure of serving tea at Cincinnati's WCET Downton Abbey event last night. We had 200 guests who enjoyed a tea tasting, hors d'oeuvres and a private sneak peek of the show's new season. Design-Bazaar contributed some vintage and antique items to set up a scene for guests to take pictures. There were hats, fine china and decadent desserts. What more could a Downton Abbey fan ask for?

The scene setup.

Desserts, tea sandwiches and scones galore.

Our Garden Rose china collection.

 The projected abbey.

The event was a true success and we hope that our guest's experience was a memorable one.

The metallic quality of this tea set is great for the holidays. Add a little cinnamon tea to the set because what is better than drinking that in cold weather?
